Our 4 Thematic Areas

According to the 2019 census, 2.2% (0.9 million people) of Kenyans live with some form of impairment..

Of specific interest to Dorcas is the prevalence of children with cerebral palsy which is a group of disorders that affect a person’s ability to move and maintain balance and posture. It is mainly caused by abnormal brain development or damage to the developing brain that affects a person’s ability to control his or her muscles. This happens before birth.

Early intervention is key to success in this process. Dorcas aims at promoting the health, and well being of the children with disability , their caregivers and open opportunities to get help and live and thrive in the society Thus the Eagle’s Wings program.
In partnership with other stakeholders Dorcas society offers periodic early intervention and wellness programs for children living with celebral palsy.

It is said that education enables upward socioeconomic mobility and it is for this reason that no effort should be speared to enable all children access quality education. Indeed the importance of education in poor societies cannot be overemphasized as it helps to break the cycle of poverty as children get the tools to help them reach full potential after which they invest in their communities.

In line with the SDG 4 The Kenyan policy on education is to have 100% transition from primary school to secondary school. While this is commendable, the cost of secondary education is so high thus locking hundreds of thousands of children from poor backgrounds from accessing secondary school Education. .

With the current state of the economy, devastating effect of covid 19, prolonged drought, high unemployment level and high cost of living, most parents are unable to support their children into secondary school.

It’s in this context that the Dorcas Scholarship program (DSP)seeks to pick up the challenge and sponsor as many children who are left out so that they can transition to secondary school.

In the last couple of years the nation of Kenya has experienced one of the worst drought  in 40 years .The apathy has further been exacerbated by the  by the high cost of living, and the devastating effects of  covid 19..

Under a program called Healthy me  school feeding program during the last 2 years of drought , Dorcas Society with help of well-wishers provided relief food in the form of  nutritious flour to over 40  needy public primary schools in Buuri Sub County of Meru county.  known as HEALTHY ME school feeding program.

The devastating impact of covid 19, high cost of living, the massive breakdown of families’ structure, drought, unemployment and single motherhood are but a few factors that the majority of Kenya  are going through. The highest casualties being the children, women and the youth

Dorcas Empowerment program  aims to bridge the gap by providing/creating opportunities for the youth and empowerment programs for the women.
